I was just thinking about all the things I have seen thru out the 30+ years of being around chickens the good as well as the bad and the one thing that sticks out to me is the way ppl will try and cheat or crook a beginner and nothing gets me more fired up. I remember one incident that really sticks out in my mind is the time I went to visit a friend there was a lil boy just starting to get into chickens there and he was carrying around a lil BrownRed Cross stag that I had give him a few days before. I ask him where he was going with that stag he said I'm going to show him against John Doe now for the record this John Doe was about 18 years older then this kid and had talk the kid into showing with only 1 spur each and the kid was to take the right spur and John Doe the left!! I offered to let the kid use a set of mine but John Doe said nope we done agreed on things so when John Doe pulled out his rooster it was a cock that had least a pound on the kids stag now I was really ****** off and I told him this is bull that u are doing to this kid and I told him u should be ashamed John Doe along with a few of his friends just laughed and said oh well me and the kid done agreed on it this way. I ask the kid son have u ever handled a bird yet he looked up at me said no sir this is my first show so I ask the kid do u mind if I handle him for u the kid said he would be happy if I would when I step in with the kids stag u talking about throwing a fit ol John Doe and his buddies went off on how that wasn't fair I turn ask the kid did u agree to handle your own bird too he shook his head said no so I turn back around and told him u crooked this kid every way u could u ain't gonna get nothing over on me in here.after about 2 hours that lil Brownred stag was standing over that cock and had counted the cock out when it was all over that kid had his first win and a smile I'll never forget.
few days later I was matched into that crook needless to say I destroyed him on the fly!
I know we have all either seen this or had it happen to us at one time or another and this is why so many beginners stop is because they never got a fair shake to start with.
