Fermenting

We all know the benifits of soured oats, but does anyone ferment there whole feed mix. I do and the benifits are well worth it. Fermentation creates new vitamins as well as enzymes and increases usable protein by 12%.excellant source for probiotics. Your chickens will consume less and assimilate more so you save on your feed bill. Whatever your feeding you can ferment. I wouldn't let it ferment as long as the oats as it can go bad. What I do as I Dont have a lot of birds is use 5 gallon buckets and fill equal parts feed to water mix every day and let ferment 3 to 5 days before feeding. I don't put a lot of water in mine as I don't like it soupy. You want it like oatmeal, when you see your getting down to a day's amount just add feed and water to the remaining mix and mix in good and it's ready to feed the next day as it already has the fermented feed in it from your first ferment. If you see any mold or yeast forming all you have to do is mix it in and the good bacteria will eat it right up. This is super food. It also will increase egg size shell thickness and weight of egg. Fermenting foods has been around for ages as a way to keep foods for a long time. Just think sourkrout or kimchi, pickles for example.
