moult ?

I talked to a guy recently and he made a good point on pickin your brood hens during the moult, he said always pick the hens that moult late and get their feathers back quicker he said those are the real producers and the ones to keep.
How many of you use this reasoning?
The man was in his 80s so I can't help but to take it in
